Sitting here watching TCM, and today they are highlighting Ronald Coleman, so have realized why I love mustaches so much. Ronald Coleman, David Niven, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., and even C. Aubrey Smith: all with mustaches and so very young! It is the Prisoner of Zenda and it is awesome. These actors are in their prime and so wonderful. The diction and enunciation makes me swoon. People who actually know how to use the spoken language as it should be spoken. The "good guys" are even wearing white and the "bad guys" are in dark uniforms.
But, sadly, I have no one to share this wonderful movie with. No one is as old as me; or shares the same memories as I. Tonight I miss my mother. Again. So often we shared things separate from the norm of other people. The private chuckles when no else was looking, that nearly always ended in "Oh My! We've been bad again, haven't we?" We watched so many old movies together. Quietly sitting in front of a 9 inch screen from the side of the pulled out couch/bed that my parents slept on at night or with my father asleep during the day for his night shift. We learned to read lips sitting on the edge of that bed. Enjoyed the Coronation of Elizabeth II sitting on the edge of that daybed, with the sound turned down so low my ears vibrated trying to hear the BBC announcer. Watched The Dorsey Brothers in amazement when Elvis Presley made his first television appearance, and was bored out of my mind on Sunday nights watching Buffalo Round Table prior to the Ed Sullivan Show!
So as I previously mentioned, no one is as old as me, or has the same memories as me, and I miss my Mom, because she was my best friend.
